As a Senior Marine Electrical Engineer, you will act as a technical lead for engineering activities done during a vessel retrofit, executed either at dock or during sailing. The vessel retrofit is to enable the vessel for shore power connection when the vessel is at berth. You will ensure that activities related to electrical system (design, procurement, and installation) are executed in accordance with contract specification, class society requirements, quality standards and safety requirements. You will also support the Sales teams during the tendering phase with vessel surveys, electrical reviews and subcontractor management.


The Role:

  • Lead the implementation of the retrofit solutions on the vessel including the supervision of installation of electrical components such as switchgear, step down transformers, switchover panel, switchboard, synchronisation panel and cable engineering (routing). The retrofit can be at berth, anchorage, dry dock or during ship operation (commercial sailing).
  • Work with suppliers and contractors to ensure work is performed according to requirements.
  • Provide technical inputs to sales team & review Electrical Systems technical proposals.
  • Support project manager in planning, purchase, organizing the FAT at various factories, issuing claims (cost impact and time impact for new work scope / change request) & delivery completion.
  • Evaluate the risk and opportunities for the retrofit solution on the vessel.
  • Act as the Cavotec technical lead for the retrofit solutions on the vessel, working with the customer to deliver retrofit solutions and actively seeking feedback with customer to drive improvements.
  • Collaborate with Project Manager and Procurement team to ensure that the technical requirements for equipment or services are communicated and agreed with potential suppliers.
  • Support technical evaluation of supplier proposals.
  • Train other field service engineers to develop a network of expertise in Cavotec for vessel retrofits.



  • Minimum 5 years of relevant experience in design and/or supervision of vessel retrofits
  • Electrical Engineering degree or equivalent background required
  • Engineering knowledge on MV & LV switchgear and vessel electrification requirements
  • Proven supervision experience of subcontractors
  • Knowledge on delivering integrated solutions
  • Ability to work as part of a team, flexibility and adaptability are skills required to be successful in the role


This role can be based in Kuala Lumpur or Singapore.
